simon update

Hello friends, readers and fellow RED fans.

Kevin and I have had many interesting experiences with the RED (and other cameras) over the last number of months and I'm sorry I haven't submitted an update recently.

Despite many interesting projects, in fact it has been a difficult summer for Kevin and (particularly) me, due to the loss of an esteemed friend and colleague ... explorer, adventurer, cave diver, Director/Producer/Cinematographer Wes Skiles.

This photo was taken a few years ago in High Springs Florida where I was working on a project with Wes Skiles and Director/Producer/Cinematographer James Cameron.

Jim and Wes shot with two Cine-Altas set-up as a unified 3-D, Hi-Def, UNDERWATER rig. We had the cameras tethered to a fibre-optic cable which led out of the underwater cave mouth, through a lagoon, to the surface "video village".

The shoot was a bit hush-hush as it set the technical foundation for an upcoming 3-D feature project involving aliens that Jim Cameron assured us would be a box-office success. .... can you guess what it was?

I was particularly close to Wes having worked with him throughout the U.S. as well as Mexico since 2001. His zany, irreverent antics bring a smile to my lips and unfortunately a tear to my eye each time I think about my adventures with Wes and the rest of his crew.
