We did the main shots on location and I decided I needed the time and the control of my lighting to make the best pics. So we took the bike into the studio for the closeups.
When shooting mirrors, chrome or anything reflective you always need to have a large background of a color to reflect into. We decided we wanted white, so I built a very large silk behind me that would reflect into the chrome depending on the angle of the lens and the lights.
I almost always use a hot backlight on most of my products or subjects. I guess it's just a trademakark. Although I think strong backlights with a background light gives you more depth feeling.
Usually I shoot a lot of my work wide open, letting everything go soft or out of focus in the background. In this situtation I needed the engine and parts in focus. So I had to have more light and more stops on the lens.
Working with the lighting and the angles I camne up with the following shots for the clients products. |
